Red Wedge Tour

Gig Description
Red Wedge was a collection of musicians who got together, loosely associated with Neil Kinnock’s Labour Party of the mid 80’s. Headed up by Paul Weller’s Style Council, who were the biggest draw, the gigs featured Billy Bragg, Junior Giscombe, The Communards, Madness, Gary Kemp from Spandau Ballet, Lorna G, and Rhoda Dakar amongst others. Different artists played different venues along the way. Madness didn’t play this night.Designed to get an apathetic youth into voting, preferably for Labour, and hopefully inspiring them to fight back against Thatcherism. It had limited success, as most people probably just wanted to see the bands and were more than likely already following the doctrine preached from the stage.
As you can see by the ticket stub, the gig was advertised for Sunday 26th, but actually took place on the Saturday night referenced by the ink stamped date.
