Gig Description
'Get Loaded in the Park' was a one day festival held on Clapham Common promoting numerous new bands and headlined by Happy Mondays.
It was a glorious summer's day and the streets around the venue were full of Mancunians drinking outside the local pubs from late morning onwards. It seemed like half of Manchester had made the journey to London and I saw numerous acquaintances from the Manchester scene.
I don't actually remember that much about the support acts other than Bez's newly formed band 'Domino Bones' and a DJ set from Clint Boon, however there were a lot of other acts spread between a few stages. Everyone was drinking heavy and by the time the sun started to set and Happy Mondays took to the main stage the crowd were in top form. They performed all their classic hits such as Kinky Afro, Step on ect and also included Black Grape's 'Reverend Black Grape' which was a massive hit with the crowd.
At the time many of us thought this would be our last chance to see Happy Mondays with Shaun and Bez moving on to new projects. Thankfully that wasn't the case but it is a gig I will never forget.
