Gig Description
We decided to spend some time in the “New Bands” tent and saw several other bands before The Arctic Monkeys set.
This was a wise move because the anticipation of this gig had gone around the festival site and as the time grew closer the crowd grew bigger. We had positioned ourselves at the back of the tent so Kaz who was expecting wasn’t crushed. The crowd kept coming into the tent and eventually no more people could physically get in. At this point the huge crowed outside the tent who were determined to witness the gig lifted up the sides of the tent. So there were those inside, a line of people with their arms raised above their heads holding the tent sides up. Then hundreds if not thousands behind them hoping to get a glimps and hear this new band that had only officially released one song.
When they took to the stage it was apparent that most of the crowd had found the songs that had been put out onto the net and knew all the words.
The gig was as you would expect a smash. The band, for a bunch of young lads were amazing and gave us a taste of what was to come from them in the next few months.
Most of the songs were a massive sing along and I have to say I loved every second of it.
In the coming weeks I was ridiculed on more than one occasion when I told people about The Arctic Monkeys and suggested they would be huge.
It didn’t take too long to prove them wrong when “I bet that you look good on the dance floor” entered the UK chart at number 1.
